Our equipment

We have a variety of equipment available at our sites, the majority is listed below. All of our equipment has a maximum weight limit, for your own safety and comfort please ensure you have checked this before you book.

Check out the location page to see an indication of a list of equipment at a particular site. Please note we do sometimes move equipment around so please call to check what we have and to book.

Hippocampe

(Maximum weight for any hippocampe is 19 stone/120kg)

Probably the most requested chair, this all terrain, manual beach wheelchair comes in small, medium and large. The size difference is only to accommodate different leg lengths, the width and depth of seat and weight limit is the same on all sizes.

It can be pushed or pulled using an attached rope and handle

Designed by disabled people for disabled people, the Hippocampe beach wheelchair enables everyone, of any age, to enjoy outdoor activities to their full ability.

This chair can be taken into the edge of the water to allow a bit of splashing around!

Some of our Hippocampes have standard all terrain wheels and some have large balloon tyres to make a smoother ride across some areas of the beaches.

Extreme Motus

(Maximum weight for the Motus is greater than most of our other equipment at 25 stone/160kg)

This manual off road wheelchair has a long wheel base to provide stability, the centre of gravity is over the rear axel to improve stability.

It has large rear balloon tyres and attendant rear brakes.

This chair can be taken into the edge of the water to allow a bit of splashing around!

Nomad Tundra

(Maximum weight for this chair is 31 stone/200kg, please note this is the combined weight of user and chair)

This is a balloon tyred manual chair. It is suitable for going along the waters edge and even for some splashing around.

Nomad Desert

(Maximum weight for this chair is 31 stone/200kg, please note this is the combined weight of user and chair)

This is a balloon tyred frame which your own wheelchair is pushed onto, removing the requirement to transfer.

You will see it is a large piece of equipment so may need more than one person to push it.

Yellow wheels

(Maximum weight for this chair is 19 stone/120kg)

The yellow wheels is a firm favourite of people who like a higher seated position.

The leg rest is fully adjustable so can be moved down to allow access to site and then is raised when moving.

This manual chair can go into the water for a splash around.

Once settled on the beach the back of this chair reclines so you can enjoy a bit of sunbathing.

Beachster

(Maximum weight for this chair is 19 stone/120kg)

The beachster resembles a standard wheelchair with large, wide rear wheels and smaller off-road balloon tyres fitted to the front.

This chair works best on hard sand and can be very difficult to push on softer sand.

Freedom Trax

(Maximum weight for this chair is 18 stone/115kg)

The freedom trax is a motorised attachment on a standard wheelchair.

Although designed to attach to chairs of different sizes, ours have a standard wheelchair already attached in order to make them most easy to use. As our service is staffed by volunteers we do not generally have the expertise available on site to fit this to your own chair. If you would like to chat to us about this would be possible please call and we can look at options.

As this is a powered device it cannot get wet, so needs to kept away from the waters edge.

These chairs are operated by joystick, this is usually attached on the right hand side but can be moved to the left.

Manual Trekinetic

(Maximum weight for this chair is 18 stone/115kg)

This all terrain, manual chair has three wheels allowing for more even weight distribution.

For transfer the seat is upright and the footplate back. Once in the chair the seat reclines very slightly and the footplate comes down, this allows better comfort as well as stability.

This chair is not suitable for going into the water.

Powered Trekinetic

(Maximum weight for this chair is 18 stone/115kg)

This all terrain powered chair has three wheels allowing for more even weight distribution and increased stability.

For transfer the seat is upright and the footplate back. Once in the chair the seat reclines very slightly and the footplate comes down, this allows better comfort as well as stability.

The chair is joystick operated.

We have one right hand operated (usually at Whitley Bay) and one left hand operated (usually at Bamburgh).  This chair must not get wet, so must be kept well away from the waters edge.

DeBug

(Maximum weight for this chair is 28 stone 9lb/182kg)

This manual, all terrain chair has balloon tyres to make it easier to push.

Like our yellow wheels chair, it has a higher seated position than some chairs.

It has a telescopic foot rest allowing it to be adjusted based on height/leg length.

Unlike some of our other balloon tyre chairs, this one cannot go into the water.

Landeez dune buster

(Maximum weight for this chair is 19 stone/120kg)

This manual chair has balloon tyres and a reasonably high seating position. It has leg rest and foot plate which can be adjusted.

 

X8 extreme powered **please note this is not currently available at any site**

(Maximum weight for this chair is 28 stone 9lb/182kg)

This powered, all terrain chair makes easy work of moving along the sand. As with all powered chairs this cannot get wet and therefore cannot be taken near the waters edge.

Wheeleez Rollator

(Seated weight limited for this rollator is 19 stone/120 kg)

Specifically designed for off road terrains, the wider wheels on this walker allow a more stable base on the sand. This can also be turned to use as a seat if you just want to admire the view.

Hoist

Our hoists are battery operated. To use one of our hoists you need to bring your own sling and it needs to be operated without the assistance of our volunteers.. Our volunteers are not trained in hoist use and therefore are unable to assist with the operation of it.

Maximum weight for use of the hoist is 28 stone/180kg.
